“To BnB or Not to BnB” or “To Air is Human”

AirbnbSo, for the past few months I have been trying to figure out how I am going to pay my rent post-divorce.  I kept thinking that I could easily just work more hours doing antique restoration and pay it from my wages.  And I could were it not for all those unforeseen events that seem to always be happening to me.  The latest, a severe bout of carpal tunnel.  Both my hands are sore, my gripping ability is diminished, and I only have feeling in my pinky in my right hand.  It’s hard to manipulate tools when you have to guess what your hand is doing.  So, it seems I have to rent the spare room.  I actually dread having to have a roommate again.   It’s not that I’ve had terrible experiences, but I’m already used to living alone.  Living with a partner is also not the same as living with a roommate.  But there’s another option.  A better option…   Read more

Great fun at the Apple Store

This was originally a comment for someone else’s blog post.  But, I feel it stands well on it’s own.

I recently went in to the Apple store on 5th ave in Manhattan.  They do have a a line to pay, but since it was buried in between rows and rows of product tables and drooling shoppers I simply couldn’t distinguish it.  So, it seems I cut off a bunch of people.  After a few minutes I realized my error and then immediately realized that the people shopping in the Apple Store at 11pm on a Friday night are not the kind of people that would say something to a poorly dressed, bearded, long-haired, 220+ lbs man with various colors of paint up to his elbows.   Read more

Review: Boxee Box

Rainbow Boxee BoxHere is the much promised Boxee Box review.

Well, what can I say.  Yes, it is odd looking.  And very pretty all at once.  Kinda like the Hellraiser cube.  Scary and beautiful.  But, not like it will kill you. It makes your life mo bettah. And isn’t that what we all want? A mo bettah life? Say yes. Ok. I saw the question posted on twitter, Why would you pay $200 for this when the Boxee software is free. And after hugging it out we came to the conclusion that for people that don’t want a second computer or a really big machine right next to their glorious 40″ flat screen, $200 is not all that bad. And I’ve had a Roku for a year, so I’m not coming at this with no base.

Boxee Box Launch Event

Boxee T-ShirtOn November 10th Pipe and I went to the Boxee Box Launch Event here in NYC.  We weren’t sure what to expect, but we knew it was going to be great.  It was cold out.  We had to wait outside.  No one knew what line we had to be in (We were there as press) and were actually bounced back and forth a few times.  We finally settled on the Vip/Guest List Line and after 30 minutes or so the line started heading in.  Weeeellllll, I have NO idea what the organizers were thinking, but while they checked 1 person off the guest list 10 from general admission walked in.  They even had their “Let me get drunk” bracelets on. This was not the greatness I was expecting.  After about 10 minutes of the VIP’s mean muggin the staff, they just started letting everyone in and slapping us with bracelets.  Woot!  I was happy again.

Thanks.  -Memo
